Pueblo Urban Renewal Authority

Downtown Pedestrian Alleyway Project

The Pueblo Urban Renewal Authority (PURA) is working toward enhancing the downtown alleyways in order to make them more pedestrian friendly and promote increased use of under-utilized rear lot areas by businesses.  Through an Request for Proposals (RFP) process, Design Studios West (DSW) was selected to develop a Master Plan and Construction Drawings for this project.

DSW held a series of  open house meetings for the community and business owners in the area to collectively create a shared vision and acquire information pertinent to the success of this project.  DSW conducted a study of the three blocks of alley between Union Avenue and Victoria Avenue, to determine the needs and possible barriers in the area.  From this study and the open house meetings, DSW was able to develop alternative design ideas.

PURA is now establishing the “next steps” in the implementation of this project.  First, the City of Pueblo’s Planning and Zoning Commission must approve the Master Plan, once approved, DSW can develop drawings.  Construction is anticipated to begin Summer 2013, and will commence at both ends of the three blocks of alleway (between HARP and B Street).  PURA has budgeted a total of $150,000 in 2013 to begin this project.
